Twenty-four-year old Godsgift Jonny killed and buried his 67-year-old mother, Mrs Rose Jonny, as was gathered.
The incident occurred in Oloibiri community of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Jonny was alleged to have butchered his mother with a matchet while she was asleep on
Sunday night and buried her in a shallow grave at the back of her house.
Sources said Jonny, who is suspected to be mentally deranged, had earlier in the day threatened to kill his mother.
“He took her bloodied body out of the room through the window and dragged her to the back of the house. He then dug a shallow grave
and dumped her there. The next morning, at about 7am,the deceased’s door was noticed to
be locked from inside and several knocks on the door were not answered. Another son of the deceased was then summoned by a
neighbour. When he came, he forced the door open and saw that the entire room was soaked with blood,” the source said.
He added that the blood traces led them to the shallow grave.
Members of the family refused to comment on the matter. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer Alex Akhigbe said the case has been transferred from the Ogbia Police Station to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
