Jonathan, has threatened to take
SaharaReporters to court for reporting that his health problems in London during the week may have resulted from heavy partying in celebration of his 56th birthday.
In a statement by his spokesman,
Reuben Abati, the president condemned what he called the “utterly irresponsible, deplorable, highly unprofessional and unethical antics of certain fringe
elements operating in the nebulous
sphere of cyberspace who persist in
seizing every opportunity to unjustifiably malign and impugn the character and integrity of the elected leader of their country.”
He said it was regrettable that while the public had been duly informed that Mr. Jonathan had received precautionary medical
attention for an unexpected indisposition in London in compliance with the leader’s standing instruction that Nigerians must never be kept in the dark about the state of his health, SaharaReporters and other reckless, lawless, impudent and unpatriotic internet-based ignored the official script “with their entirely fictional, malicious, hate-driven and scurrilous distortion of the facts.”
Reiterating the denial of a party in London to celebrate President Jonathan's birthday on Wednesday night, Abati said the president upon arrival spent the day in the privacy of his hotel room and that it has never been his custom to celebrate birthday anniversaries. In
particular, there was certainly no drinking spree, he claimed.
“As unregulated as they are, SaharaReporters and their ilk are not beyond the bounds of legal action for libel and willful defamation of the character and reputation of a President who has courageously stepped forward to
serve his country,” the statement threatened.
“They know very well that they can never substantiate or prove the constant false allegations and innuendoes they publish for the sole purpose of negatively portraying President Jonathan and his administration.
“Their incessant claim of a bibulous President is pure fiction and blackmail, and the product
of malicious imagination. We warn that our forbearance of their disrespectful caricaturing of the President is not limitless.”
Despite Mr. Jonathan’s threats and
deployment of scare tactics, SaharaReporters stands by its account of the events in London
in the past few days.

The National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) just ended in Kano with the leadership of the union keeping the
outcome to themselves.
Sources reports that the meeting, which was principally convened to ratify the resolutions of the local branches of the union on the offer of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the controversial ASUU/ FG's agreement, ended successfully.
It was gathered that at the end of the meeting, which was held in a secret location in Kano from 10.am to around 9.pm on Friday night, the leadership of the union took a position on the strike.
As anxiety sets in, its said by another source that the union, after reporting to the president the outcome of the meeting, might call–off the strike.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Hayward Mafuyai has said that no
previous government has put in efforts to address the decaying education system in the country like President Goodluck Jonathan.
He further stressed that the Federal
government is committed to ensuring that the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) comes to an end soon.
Mafuyai, who stated this Friday while addressing newsmen in Jos also dissociated himself from the recent position of the Unijos chapter of the ASUU saying he is not in support of the union voting in favour of the continuation of the four-month old strike on the ground that the meeting between
the union and the federal government held recently achieved nothing.

A Seventeen year old female student of the University of Calabar, name withheld, was raped to a state of coma by armed robbers who raided the hostel she and several other colleagues are living on Tuesday night in Calabar.
The robbers, according to a fair complexioned male student who gave his name as Ngoli, attacked the hostel located at Mount Zion
Road/ Inyang Edem Street at about 2am and raped all the female students and carted away all their laptops and cell phones.
“They stared by firing warning shots into the air to warn us that they came for serious business and thereafter went from room to room battering everybody and raping the
female students one after the other”.

One of Britain’s longest and most bitter divorce battles ended on Friday with a High Court judge branding a well-connected millionaire “a liar” and his ex-wife “a conspiracy theorist.”
Far from being “penniless and hopelessly bankrupt”, as he had claimed, Scot Young, 51, was worth 40m pounds ($65m) and his estranged wife Michelle Young, 49, should get half of it, judge Philip Moor ruled.
“This case has been quite extraordinary even by the standards of the most bitter of
matrimonial breakdowns,” Moor wrote in his ruling, noting that it had taken over six years and 65 court hearings to come to trial.
The case has made headlines in Britain because of the size of the claims and the fact that Scot Young has enjoyed financial help from high-profile friends including Philip
Green, the billionaire owner of the Topshop retail chain.
Michelle has run up legal bills of 6.5m pounds, while Scot has served six months in jail for failing to provide full and frank disclosure of his assets.
The pair were married for 17 years until 2006 and enjoyed a lavish lifestyle of mansions, jet- setting holidays and gifts of diamond
jewellery, funded by Scot’s investments in property, technology and start-up companies.
It all fell apart when the marriage broke down, coincided with what the husband described as a total meltdown of his business empire that left him “penniless and hopelessly bankrupt” with unpaid debts of 28m pounds.
The judge said it was impossible to know the full truth of his financial position due to “the significant number of lies told by the husband

A source who spoke to daily trust reporter on condition of anonymity said it is possible that the union of university lecturers will call off its
over-four-month-old strike tomorrow.
Daily Trust reports that the members of the National Executive Council of ASUU parked their cars in Bayero University, Kano's oldsite
and entered a PTF coaster bus to an
undisclosed location where the NEC meeting is going on currently.

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Dr Lawan
Abubakar has debunked media reports that the union had postponed its National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting slated
for tomorrow.
He restated that the leadership of the Union postponed the scheduled NEC meeting at Bayero University, Kano, following the
demise of Festus Iyayi, a former President, who died last Tuesday in a motor accident along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
A car in the convoy of Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, had hit the vehicle conveying the deceased and some ASUU members, leading to Iyayi’s death. Others injured are
presently receiving treatment.
Abubakar who spoke in Bauchi further denied that the striking lecturers had accepted the over N1trillion offered by the Federal Government.
“There is no iota of truth in that. What the union is agitating for is the full implementation of the 2009 agreement and nothing less,” he said.
The Union has been on strike since July 1 over the 2009 agreement it reached with the Federal Government.
Its leadership has said it will deliberate on the current Federal Government’s offer and take a position after Friday’s NEC meeting.

The ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suffered a major setback as the the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo
State has pulled out. In a statement signed by its registrar R.B Olotu, the school directed its students to resume for the second semester on November 25th 2013.
The statement read “All Students of AAUA are hereby Informed that academic activities of the 2nd
semester of 2012/2013 session truncated as a result of the ASUU national strike are to resume on Monday, 25th November, 2013
with the continuation of registration on the University portal, while lectures are to start
on Mon, 2nd December, 2013.
We gathered that six universities including Imo State University (IMSU) will follow suit in days to come.

The Peace and Conflict Committee on the dispute between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue
State said on Wednesday that “over 300″ lives had been lost so far.
Members of the committee, led by Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Eihoda (retd), met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu
Tambuwal, in Abuja. Eihoda, who said the attacks on villages by
herdsmen were on the increase, informed Tambuwal that farmlands and house were not
spared.
He added, “Farmlands have been destroyed while countless number of persons have been rendered homeless.”
Eihoda praied the efforts by the House to resolve the problem by calling for increased security presence in Agatu.
He urged the Speaker to ensure that the intervention of the House did not end with the motion it passed on Agatu crisis, but should follow it up by mounting pressure on the executive arm of government to act on time.
Tambuwal condemned the incessant conflicts in many parts of the country.
The Speaker expressed concern that security agencies were overstretched by the high number of skirmishes they had to contend
with on a regular basis.
He appealed to Nigerians to learn to live together peacefully.

A blind man, Shaibu Ibrahim, on
Monday told a Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, that he and his wife, Lami, could not resolve their differences.
Ibrahim, 56, of Aso Pada, Mararaba, told the court that all his effort to settle with Lami, 38,
proved abortive. “I took one of my friends to her place but she refused to listen to us. She did not regard us as human beings, instead she walked out on us,’’ he said.
The blind man urged the court to continue with the case.
The Judge, Malam Danladi Musa, adjourned the case to Dec. 2 for continuation of hearing and ordered Lami to come with her witnesses.
On Nov. 14, Lami had urged the court to dissolve her marriage to Ibrahim for his alleged excessive sexual urge.
Lami told the court that she was no longer interested in the 15-month-old marriage.
“I urge the court to dissolve this marriage because I can’t stand his excessive sexual urge. He likes sex too much, I can’t bear it.
“Most times, he would have sex with me from midnight till early hours of the morning, even when I am crying, he will not stop,’’ Lami
alleged.
She alleged that Ibrahim was uncontrollable anytime he wanted sex and that whenever she refused his sexual advances, he would beat her up even in front of their children.
