No student died at a Lagos hotel. The real story behind the photo that went viral

Last week the pic above went viral with many
blogs claiming that another student was found
dead in a hotel in Lagos. The report claimed
that the victim is a girl named Florence Ngwu,
a 300L student of University of Nigeria. Erm,
no such thing happened in real life. This is a
photo from a movie called Murder at Prime
Suite Hotel, a fiction but similar to the Cynthia
Osogwu murder story.
The character's name is Florence Ngwu played
by an actress. The movie stars Joseph Benjamin
and Chelsea Eze. The producers of the movie
have released a statement. See it after the
cut...

Student Found Dead In A Lagos Hotel

The story has been circulating and some have said her name is Florence and she is a 300L student of University of Nigeria. Till now, sources can't say what her mission in the hotel was. They still don't know who she came to see in Lagos, that made her lodge in the hotel, but her dead body was found on the floor. Really sad, it's not even one year that Cynthia Osokogu died.

There are indications that the on-going strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities might be called off next Thursday.
Governor of Benue State, Mr Gabriel Suswam who dropped this hint Friday said ASUU and the Federal Government had reached agreements on all the contentious issues  that led to the industrial action except two.
Suswam who was appointed as Chairman of the Needs Assessment Implementation Committee of the Federal Government said after next Thursday’s  deliberations between his Committee and the various agencies of government funding tertiary  education, all the contentious issues would likely be resolved.
Speaking to news men  in Abuja after attending a meeting between the Federal Government’s delegation and ASUU, Suswam said that agreements had been reached by both parties on all issues except two.
Said he: “We reached agreements on all issues except two. These two issues are those of earned allowances  of lecturers and  intervention for the federal universities. These are the only issues that are still outstanding.”
The Benue Governor further said he believed that by next week  after  his Committee would  have arrived at an agreement on all the issues, ASUU would call off the strike.
He continued:  ”The SGF would meet with the leadership of ASUU on the issue of earned allowances by next Monday.
Then my committee which is dealing with the issue of the needs assessment of the universities  would meet again next Thursday and take another look at all the infrastructural deficits which the federal universities are facing.
If you go to our universities, you would agree that they are facing infrastructural deficits and that is why my committee would meet with all the funding agencies next Thursday for the purpose of prioritizing all the projects that need to be executed.  We are going to invite all the agencies that are involved in the funding of the universities including the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
Suswam further stated that the issues on  agreements have been reached include:  those of retirement age for  university lecturers- which has now been increased from 65 to 70 years; the constitution of the governing councils of the universities  which has already been done by the Government; the setting up of  a  pension administrator and  the issue of persuading companies operating in the country to set up research centers in the universities.
Said he: “As far as I am concerned, if the issues concerning  intervention and earned allowances are resolved next week,  then the strike could be called off”
Among those who attended  the  meeting were  Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Minister of Labour, Hon. Emeka Wogu,  Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayatu Rufai and  President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Nasir Fagge.

R e v e a l e d! Lagos slave camp where underage girls are recruited into prostitution

R e v e a l e d! Lagos slave camp where underage girls are recruited into prostitution

I was in JSS3 at the time, and I was too young to understand anything. So, when I became pregnant, I told my boyfriend about it, but he denied it and ran away. That was how I stopped going to school. After about two years, I came to Lagos to hustle. One aunty then introduced me to this business
MARTHA is a 15-year-old girl endowed with beauty. But she faces a very bleak future as she is held captive in a brothel in Gbagada, a suburb of Lagos, where she has to sleep with men old enough to be her father and surrender her entire earnings to a woman designated as her aunty. In return, the aunty gives Martha a sum she deems sufficient to cater for her basic needs.
The more than two decades old brothel is located close to Sawmill Bus-stop in Gbagada. In it resides a cartel of mature prostitutes called aunties, to whom younger girls like Martha are responsible. The older prostitutes act as guardians to the younger ones aged between 14 and 19 years. Most of the girls are said to have been lured to Lagos from Edo and Delta states by their aunties. With a promise of the good life, the girls follow the aunties to Lagos only to be lured into prostitution.
The cartel’s mode of operation is similar to those that have been reported about innocent Nigerian girls lured into prostitution in Europe. The girls, who are mostly from poor parental backgrounds and broken homes, serve their aunties for as long as two years before they are deemed matured enough to stand on their own.
A source in the hotel told our correspondent that for a newly recruited girl to become a member of the prostitution ring, her aunty has to pay the sum of N50,0000 to the proprietor of the brothel as registration fee. After that, the aunty makes the young girl to sleep with older men. All the proceeds from her sexual activities go to the aunty who decides how much is returned to the young girl as “pocket money”.
Our correspondent visited the hotel on a sunny day last week and met one of the girls named Martha, an indigene of Delta State. She was decked in a gown that barely covered her backside. Like a famished tigress, she rushed towards the reporter, offering him sex. After a brief discussion, she led the reporter to the brothel’s bar and was quickly joined by three of her colleagues.
Martha was the first to order for a bottle of a popular herbal drink called Alomo Bitters. With promise of a long-term friendship from the reporter, she opened up on her past and her dreams, narrating how she became a sex worker in the hotel.
Surprisingly, she doubles as an apprentice hairdresser, hoping to settle down into hairdressing business someday. But for now, she is under contract to serve her aunty for 11 more months, during which she must hand over her entire earnings.
Martha said: “My aunty is very nice. She gives me money, depending on how much I make in a day. I am from Delta State, and I am learning to become a hairdresser. I will leave next year after my service. After that, I will open a shop and become a businesswoman.”
It took her no time to finish her drink and order for another bottle. At this stage, the discussion became livelier, as the four girls freely talked about their lives as prostitutes in the brothel.
“I am very brave,” said Martha, beating her chest as she spoke. “I can take on as many men as are available at a time.”
But going by her confessions, she is an endangered species. Besides the meager nature of her income, she is daily exposed to the danger of being defrauded or physically assaulted by the men that patronise her. Only a few days earlier, she lost her cell phone, which she said she bought for N32, 000, to a client from whom she had only reaped N2,000.
She said: “The man stole my phone after paying me N2,000. I called the number and he picked it, but claimed that the phone belonged to him.”
Asked if she was not afraid of contracting HIV/AIDS, she said she had received enough lessons on how to protect herself against sexually transmitted diseases and other dangers that come with her trade. She said apart from insisting that her clients must wear condom, she had been taught not to get carried away when entertaining them.
“The first thing they taught us was that men are cunning, and that we should be very careful with them. We also go for medical check-ups regularly. But one thing is that we don’t sleep with men without condoms,” she said.
Martha is not alone in this modern day slavery. She has a partner in soft-spoken Janet, an indigene of Edo State. At 17, the second child in a family of seven says she took to prostitution because she wanted to make a success of her life.
In her barely audible voice, she said she was forced to go into prostitution because her elder sister was not discharging her responsibilities towards their parents. She is expected to gain her freedom in November, when she would have served her aunty for more than one year.
She told a pathetic story of the events that led her into prostitution, saying that unlike Martha, she plans to go back to school.
“I want to go back to school. I came here because there was nothing else for me to do. But once I finish serving my aunty, I will leave this place completely and make sure that I go back to school,” she said.
Interestingly, Janet is in the business with her cousin, 15-year-old Pat. Evidently more daring and outspoken than her two other colleagues, Pat declared that she wanted the reporter to have a relationship with the three of them. “I like you. If you no mind, all of us fit be your friend,” she said, her colleagues nodding in affirmation while she continued to do justice to the bottles of Climax energy drink in front of her.
A quick tour of the brothel revealed that it contained 54 rooms, each allocated to an aunty. While a first-time visitor would only notice the front gate and the rear gates, a closer observation would reveal other entry and exit points.
The arrangement of the rooms makes it difficult for a non-regular visitor to master the terrain. The source at the hotel said the arrangement was meant to conceal the activities of the prostitutes.
According to the source, 14 of the rooms are allocated to teenage prostitutes while the rest are occupied by their older and more experienced aunties.
At Room 19, a busty lady, probably in her 30s, sat on a stool by the door. Asked why she was idle at that time of the day, she said she was waiting for prospective clients, adding that business had been dull because of the Ramadan period.
She jumped up at the reporter’s suggestion of a deal. After a quick negotiation, she agreed to take N750, down by N250 from the N1,0000 she demanded initially.
A visit to Room 32 revealed that the occupant was one of the aunties named Faith, from Edo State. She agreed to give a younger girl to the reporter for a fee to be agreed. But she argued that she was capable of anything the younger girls could offer.
Upon the reporter’s insistence, she dashed to Room 30, where some of her girls were sleeping at the time. The lot fell on 19-year-old Sarah, who quickly went to another room to prepare the bed.
The innocent-looking girl felt disappointed when she returned moments later and was told that the reporter had changed his mind, but with a promise to come back later in the evening. She ran back into the room, ostensibly to steal a few minutes of sleep before another client would come knocking.
Such has been the lot of the young girls in the brothel. They take care of the sexual needs of their clients at night and give the proceeds to the aunties. Yet the little time they have to rest or in the day time is repeatedly punctuated by clients who stroll in, in the day.
A funny incident had occurred at the brothel the previous night. Encouraged by the hotel source, the reporter had stormed the hotel at exactly 8:30 pm, hoping to take pictures of the girls’ activities. One needed no one to tell him that one had stepped into an ‘unholy’ ground. From one room to the other, both the young and the old prostitutes showcased their ‘wares’ with skimpy dresses.
One of them named Jessica said she had been expecting a customer for more than two hours without luck. The reporter’s arrival therefore gave her the hope of making some money, which she said had been scarce since the commencement of Ramaddan. Jessica, who claims to be a mother of one, lamented the lull that had occasioned the fasting period. She also said she had been unlucky with her love life.
According to her, she had her child, who is now 11 years old, after she was put in the family way by her boyfriend. The man later denied the pregnancy, leaving her and her poor family to cater for the boy.
She said: “I was in JSS3 at the time, and I was too young to understand anything. So, when I became pregnant, I told my boyfriend about it, but he denied it and ran away. That was how I stopped going to school. After about two years, I came to Lagos to hustle. One aunty then introduced me to this business.”
But in spite of all that she has been through, Jessica insists she has no regrets about her past. “What is there for me to regret now?” she asked rhetorically.
It is now more than a decade that Jessica took the unholy path of selling her body for money, but both joy and wealth, the twin reasons she opted for prostitution, have eluded her. Rather she has had an unsettled life, with no decent home or man to call her own.
While denied having any regret, it was obvious that Jessica was not the happiest of women. Her expectations from the trade were far from being met. Unfortunately, she has no other profession to turn to.
She said: “Let me confess, I thought I would have made it more than this. At a point, I even tried to travel to Italy, but the aunty who wanted to help me stole all the money that I saved. She asked me to bring N500, 000, promising to take me to Italy. I was able to raise about N400, 000, which I gave to her. But after that day, I never saw her again. If I didn’t lose that money, I might have stopped this business by now.”
For Jessica and the other young girls in the brothel, the future looks bleak. What with their meager daily earnings, most of which they spend on feeding, medicals and fairly used clothes. Whatever is left in the end cannot guarantee the flashy lifestyle that prompted them to go into the trade.
It is no longer a secret that more than one thousand Nigerian girls are trafficked to different countries by prostitution rings in Europe every month. The unholy trade has assumed a height never seen before in the last decade, with Italy as choice destination.
However, recent investigation has shown that the crime is gradually declining in Western Europe following strict laws on illegal migration and the efforts of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
But while the fight against the international prostitution rings may be gaining momentum, with relative success, locally-based prostitution rings are devising a model fashioned after the Europe-based rings to lure young and innocent girls into the world’s oldest profession.

Child Marriage - Senators Blackmailed to Alter Votes, Says Mark

Senate President David Mark Wednesday
opened up on the controversy surrounding the
alleged endorsement of child marriage by the
Senate, explaining that those who voted for the
retention of Section 29 4(b) in the 1999
Constitution were blackmailed to change their
mind under the guise of religion.
Mark, who made the disclosure while receiving
a coalition of women groups that visited the
National Assembly to protest the retention of
Section 29 4(b) by the Senate, regretted that
the Senate was arm twisted to alter its first
vote on the clause during which 85 senators,
which exceeded the required number to get it
deleted from the constitution, had already
voted against the clause.
He spoke a day after his deputy, Senator Ike
Ekweremadu, laboured to explain the decision
of the Senate on the matter, saying the public
misconstrued the intention of the Senate on
section 29 of the constitution.
Ekweremadu, who addressed journalists on
Tuesday in Abuja on the matter, added that the
section does not spell out any marital age for
women as the public now believes.
But giving his narration of the event, Mark,
while playing host to a coalition of women
groups that visited him in Abuja, said the
Senate should be commended instead of being
condemned for daring to take the first lead to
delete the section, which he said was gender
insensitive.
He explained that the parliament had
successfully taken the right step before the
introduction of religious connotation that he
said forced Muslim senators to reverse
themselves.
During voting on the report of the Senate
Committee on the Review of the Constitution
last week, Senator Ahmad Sani (Zamfara West)
had protested the earlier voting, which deleted
the section of the constitution. The section
states that "any woman that is married shall be
deemed to be of full age" while Section 29 (a)
states that "full age is 18 years."
Sani, while seeking the retention of the clause,
said it was against Islamic law to delete it, thus
creating the impression that once the clause is
retained, a woman is free to get married any
time irrespective of her age.
This generated uproar as Nigerians lambasted
the Senate for endorsing child marriage.
However Mark, who promised that the Senate
would attempt to revisit the matter, said the
good intention of the Senate failed when it
could no longer secure the required two-third
majority to carry its intention through.
He also narrated how the entire mood of the
chamber changed the moment religion was
introduced into the voting, making many
senators to reverse themselves.
He said the situation forced some senators
who had earlier taken the right decision to
withdraw and voted against their will, adding
that that was why only 60 senators voted for
the deletion of section 29 of the constitution
after the second voting as against the 85 that
did so earlier.
Mark said: "Why we voted public was that
everybody will know the stand of every senator
on every issue. I think the problem is not
whether we can delete this section 29(4) (b) or
not. That is not the issue; it is whether we can
get the number to be able to delete it. With all
due respect, the entire Senate is being
castigated because there was and there is still a
complete misunderstanding of what the Senate
had tried to do. We are on the side of the
people. That was why we put it that we should
delete it. That was what the people wanted.
"We, in fact, are the first people that took the
step in the right direction to delete it. It didn't
go through because of other tangential issues
that were brought in on the floor of the Senate
which were totally inconsequential issues,
unconnected issues that were brought in.
"We wanted to remove it but it failed. We were
a total of 101 that voted, 85 voted for the
deletion. I think about six or so abstained.
There was hardly any dissenting vote but once
it was mixed up with so many other issues, it
didn't get the required 73 votes anymore.
"So first of all, I think the castigation out there
is done out of misunderstanding but because a
religious connotation was brought into it,
which is a very sensitive issue. And you must
agree with me that in this country, we try as
much as possible not to bring issues that
involve religion to the floor of the Senate and
indeed the chamber. We keep religion
completely out of it because what is good for
a Christian is also good for a Muslim.
"The good of the country is for everybody and
not for a particular religious sect. I think the
bottom line is, when people get more
educated, then we can have a rethink and
probably, if the Senate agrees to go back, we
will see whether we can get the required
number once more because that is the
solution. Let me also talk to my own brothers
and sisters who are senators, who were
probably blackmailed to do it. That is the fact,
because it was in the open. I cannot also hide
it and nobody can hide it. They were simply
blackmailed and on that day, if they didn't do
what they did, nobody knows the outcome or
how the consequences will be today because
the people outside can say this man, you are a
Muslim and you didn't vote for something that
is of Islamic interest because if we don't hit
the nail squarely on the head, we may never
get it right."
While presenting an address on behalf of the
women group under the aegis of Gender and
Constitution Reform Network (GECORN), Mrs.
Saadatu Mahdi said: "From the moment of
birth, the first gift every Nigerian receives
from the state is citizenship. To protect this
sacred gift of citizenship, we advocate the
deletion of section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It is the desire of all Nigerian girls, who are
not old enough to vote or obtain a driver's
licence, somehow old enough to renounce
their citizenship.
"Nigerians deserve to be protected by their
constitution and so we call for the deletion of
Section 29 4(b). The Senate must remain
impervious to emotional, religious reasoning
and focus on aggregate social good which will
protect and enrich the lives of half of the
nation's population."

Manchester United have just one week to decide on an approach for Marouane Fellaini, as the Everton midfielder's £22million release-clause is set to expire at the end of the month,

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a
move away from Goodison Park this summer,
and the reigning Premier League champions
have been touted as the Belgium
international's most likely destination.
New Red Devils boss David Moyes - who
succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford
last month - has been credited with an interest
in a number of his former Toffees players, and
has already been knocked back in his attempt
to sign sought-after left-back Leighton Baines.
Fellaini is also understood to be on Manchester
United's radar, though, as Moyes looks to
strengthen hissquad ahead of the 2013/14
campaign with the addition of the box-to-box
midfielder.
Having had two bids for Barcelona's Cesc
Fabregas already turned down this transfer
window, Manchester United might now turn
their attention to the Everton star.
However, the club will have to move quickly if
they want to activate Fellaini's release-clause,
which expires on July 31.

Mercedes-Benz considers golf cart

Mercedes-Benz, famous for building some of the world’s most luxurious cars, has given a preview of a golf cart it may design in future.
Mercedes-Benz golf cart
A report by foxnews.com on Tuesday said the auto manufacturer presented the Vision Golf Cart during this year’s Open Championship, adding that it was the result of design ideas submitted by hundreds of golf fans around the globe.
The ideas provided the basis for the concept, which was created by the official Mercedes-Benz design department.
Heading the project was Mercedes-Benz Design Chief, Gorden Wagener, who said the design fits in well with the auto maker’s ‘sensual-purity’ design philosophy.
The vehicle is electrically driven and runs on a battery that is charged via roof-top solar panels. Manual charging, as for a conventional golf cart, is also possible.
Inside, there’s plenty of technology. Using touch screen monitors, virtually all aspects of the cart can be controlled without extra buttons.
The centre console also incorporates a multimedia panel that includes a rotatable docking station for an iPad or iPhone and a USB interface.
A joystick is used to control the vehicle instead of a steering wheel. This design was picked so that the vehicle can be driven by occupants on either side.
One other interesting feature is the “fore button,” which as its name suggests can be used to quickly warn other players of a misplaced shot.

Liverpool fans stood by Suarez –Rodgers

Suarez
SuarezBrendan Rodgers insists Luis Suarez will not be able to forget the support he has received from Liverpool fans, even if he succeeds in forcing through a summer move away.
Arsenal lodged a €49m bid for the Uruguay international, while Real Madrid is heavily linked with a move for the striker who has made no secret of his desire to play Champions League football.
Suarez’s attitude has alienated many Liverpool fans who stuck by him during the Patrice Evra racism row and Branislav Ivanovic biting incident, for which he is still serving a 10-match ban.
But the unsettled striker was still given a rapturous reception by Reds supporters during Wednesday’s friendly win over Melbourne Victory and Rodgers believes this will play on the striker’s mind.
“The support he has received from the supporters and the people of the city of Liverpool has been unrivalled,” the former Swansea boss told reporters.
“The people have stood by him, like a son, and really looked after him. Whatever happens in the coming weeks that will be in his mind because it’s something you can never forget.”

Flying Eagles and Rangers of Enugu striker, Alhaji Gero also made the trip to Abidjan, so, the Nigeria coach will not lack strikers.
In the defence the dependable figures like Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Solomon Kwambe, Chibuzor Okonkwo and Benjamin Francis all made the trip. Captain Chigozie Agbim will man the post.

Fish Seller In Oyo State Discovers Mermaid

Akindele House, Isale Asaka, Foko, Ibadan, an erstwhile sleepy and serene community in the capital city of Oyo State, came alive on Tuesday and it became a Mecca of sort, when the news of a miniature mermaid (omo Yemoja) filtered through the city. It took a while before the medianigeria crew got access to the house, a storey building, and when it finally did, the head of the family, Alhaji Raufu A. Salau, said he was sleeping upstairs when he heard a lot of unusual noise which forced him to come downstairs.
According to him, “Ramota, his granddaughter, sells fried and roasted fish in the house and, as usual, purchased a carton of frozen fish that morning. She was in the process of cleaning the fish and separating those to be roasted from the ones to be fried when she was said to have screamed out loud and called on neighbours to come to her aid.”
24072013news2Salau, a retired civil servant, said he heard people asking after him but rather than come upstairs to see him, the lady ran to meet her Shehu, an Islamic cleric, who followed her home and offered some prayers in the Islamic way before the neighbours, who had begun to converge on the scene, could take the pictures of the strange “fish.” The first person who took the picture of the strange fish was said to have had his phone shattered mysteriously.
Alhaja Alirat, a member of the community, told the medianigeria that she did not see the mermaid but the lady who claimed to have seen it, but declined to speak with the press, told her that the mermaid, though very small in size initially, grew bigger and was fish from waist downward and human being from waist upwards, with mouth, nose, eyes and long hair, which it was swinging to cover its eyes when the mammoth crowd thronged to the scene to look at it. She also said it was alleged that the mermaid spoke, begging Ramota, the fish seller, not to expose it but that Ramota shouted out of fear.
Meanwhile, one Miss Osungbemi, an Osun worshipper, claimed that the mermaid was on a mission to uplift Ramota financially. Rather than shout, she said Ramota ought to have looked for a big basin filled with water and throw the mermaid inside, adding that she should have then called on Osun worshippers who would call the mermaid by its cognomen and tutor the lady on how to appease it.
She said Ramota would have become a consultant, diagnosing and treating people with the aid of the mermaid, who would be telling her what to do, even as she claimed that someone in the house where the mermaid was found must have worshipped Osun at a point in his or her life.
Some members of the crowd, who did not volunteer their names, said it was Ramota’s mother that had worshipped Osun before and that before the occurrence, she had received messages to visit the Osun Osogbo grove to worship Osun, but that she had been complaining that there was no time. Responding to Osungbemi’s claims, Alhaja Alirat said “the tradition to which one is born is quite different from the religion one is practising,” adding that if one was born into Osun tradition and one became a Muslim and, at a point in time, received a message to worship Osun, there was nothing bad in it.
“It does not affect one’s religion. In fact, it is for one’s good, as worshipping the Osun would improve one’s fortune in life and make the person a better human being. At least, the Holy Book says we should give to Caesar what is Caesar’s,” she said. All efforts to see the mermaid, however, failed, as some people claimed that the mermaid had been moved out of the house while others said it was still in the house and that Ramota had been taken to the police station at Mapo.
At the Mapo Police Station, however, the Tribune crew sighted Ramota, who was with her baby and her Shehu, the Islamic cleric. It was certain that the police were yet to sight the mermaid as of press time.  Different contingent of policemen sent to the house failed to bring the mermaid out, as the divisional police officer later directed the press to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bisi Ilobanafor.
The PPRO said there was no issue in the mermaid story as she spoke directly with Ramota, who told her that she did not see any mermaid, but that it was people who changed her story.  The PPRO said there were many creatures in the ocean, adding that what the fish seller saw could have been one of them but certainly not a mermaid. Meanwhile, it was overheard that the mermaid had been taken to the house of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola-Alao, in Ibadan.
All efforts to get Aare Arisekola-Alao on phone failed, as he did not pick his call but one of his aides, who did not want his name in print, confirmed that it was a big crayfish that was brought to Aare Arisekola’s gate and not a mermaid. He said the  people who came around were turned back, adding that Arisekola-Alao did not see the crayfish.
A traditionalist, Dr Olowoglass by name, said he was born into traditional worship over 60 years ago and had never heard that a mermaid visited someone in the manner being broadcast around. He said the president of traditionalists told him that he had seen the purported mermaid and could not say whether it was a mermaid or not.

Match Report:South China 0-1 Manchester City

Manchester City reached the Asia Trophy final with a routine 1-0 win over South China on Wednesday.
Edin Dzeko scored the only goal, taking advantage of one of just a number of industrious runs down the right flank from man-of-the-match James Milner, with Alvaro Negredo coming close twice after making his debut in the second half.
man city Manuel Pellegrini chose a strong Manchester City line-up for the Asia Trophy semi-final, with the likes of Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure all starting  for Manchester Citybut, despite their experience, the Premier League giants struggled to assert themselves on a well-worn pitch.
Samir Nasri and Milner were afforded much space down the flank, with City lining up in a 4-5-1 formation, but they initially struggled to carve open any opportunities duo to the condition of the playing surface.
An industrious yet frustrating performance from Pellegrini’s charges did not start to bear fruit until the 13th minute when Dzeko skipped past Jack Sealy to arrowed a right-footed shot from 30 yards into the hands of Zhang Chunhui.
Milner came into his own soon after and started to dictate play down to right flank, first finding Toure inside the penalty area to force the goalkeeper into a smart save, before similar fine work saw Dzeko picked out 10 yards from goal to break the deadlock.
City continued to plunder either flank and could, and perhaps should, have extended their lead when Nasri spotted Toure’s darting run through the centre but South China’s high line, and the Ivorian’s eagerness, saw the referee call the play back for offside.
Toure, though, nearly made amends inside two minutes of the restart with a signature charge through the defence, but his angled shot towards the far corner fizzed past the post.
Negredo was introduced for his debut with 25 minutes remaining and was almost immediately handed the opportunity to open his Manchester City account thanks to more smart movement from Milner, only for fellow substitute Dhiego Martins to hack the danger away.
The former Sevilla man was lively, and soon linked up with Nasri to attempt an acrobatic scissor kick inside the penalty area, but he could not keep his shot down and it sailed over the bar.
Minutes later, Negredo nearly turned provider as a fine outside-of-the-boot pass into the path of Dzeko left the striker with just Zhang to beat, but the goalkeeper stood stall and produced another impressive save.
The final 10 minutes saw very little urgency from the Premier League team, bar the impressive Milner, with City knowing they did done enough to reach the final against Sunderland on Saturday despite the narrow scoreline.

Justin Bieber, Undisputed Selfie King, Has Some Tips For Geraldo Rivera MTV News knew where to look for advice after the shirtless septuagenarian raised some eyebrows: JB's Instagram!

The selfie is an art — a delicate tightrope walk between posterity and vanity — which is why one posted this weekend by Fox News contributor Geraldo Rivera sent currents of unrest throughout the Web.
Setting aside the fact that the 70-year-old TV personality appears almost in the nude, the snap was just not as artful as it could have been. So MTV News turned to the master of the selfie's photofeed — yes, that would be Justin Bieber — for some guidance on how Rivera could have made his photo POP.
Justin BieberRivera has since taken down the photo, which he tweeted Saturday with the caption "70 is the new 50 (Erica and family are going to be so pissed ... but at my age...)." But if he ever decides to turn the lens on himself again, here's five Bieber-sourced tips he should heed:

ASUU blames FG for poor funding of education

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has blamed the decay in the sector on the political class.
The Convener, ASUU Committee on Human Rights, Dr. Sola Olorunyomi, in Ibadan on Saturday said it would prevail on the leadership in ensuring that education was given desired attention.
National President, ASUU, Nasir Issa-Fagee
He said, “The Federal Government conspired with the political class to under-develop education at the detriment of national growth and development. The leadership abdicates their responsibility by under-funding education.”
ASUU is currently on strike over the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the FG.

Olorunyomi said the union called for progressive increase in budgetary allocation to education, federal assistance to state universities, funding for revitalisation of Nigerian universities and earned allowances, among others.
“The union has vowed to forge ahead with the strike until the agreements have been fully implemented. The enslavement must stop. The underfunding of research has made conduct of cutting edge researches a pipeline dream in Nigeria,” he said.

Actress Nkiru Sylvanus has been sacked from the cabinet of Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State. The actress was relieved of her position as Special Assistant on Lagos Affairs following a cabinet dissolution by the Imo State government which affected all commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistants in the cabinet.

Well, not immediately. But they will eventually when their massive twin duplex is completed in about a year or so. I hear the new home they are constructing in one of the most expensive areas in Lagos, will have a gym, swimming pool, a bar, and even a basketball court.
