FG didn’t give ASUU ultimatum; Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has weekend, said his government did not give the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, an ultimatum to resume work or be sacked.
Fielding questions from newsmen at the expanded caucus meeting of the Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party held at Government House, Yenagoa, the President said, the Supervising Minister of Education only passed
on the decision of the Committee of Vice Chancellors.
We didn’t give them ultimatum; it was the Committee of Vice Chancellors that took that decision. The Supervising Minister of.Education only passed on the decision.”
Jonathan also said the strike embarked upon by the  ASUU  was no longer a trade dispute , but a subversive action.
He said, “What ASUU is doing is no longer trade union. I have intervened in other labour issues before now, once I invite them they
respond and after the meeting they take decision and call off the strike.
“At times we don’t even give them a long notice, unlike, in the case of ASUU that was given four days notice before the meeting. As you are meeting to resolve trade disputes, you expect the trade unions to get their officials ready.
“What was expected having met with the highest authorities in the land for long hours, was for ASUU to immediately issue statement
within 12 or latest 24 hours , to state their position whether they were accepting government’s offer or not. And if they are not accepting they should state the reason for that.”
“But despite the fact that I had the longest meeting with ASUU in my political history, we did not start that meeting until around 2:00pm and the meeting ended the next day in the early hours. As far as the government of Nigeria was concerned, all the critical people
that should be in a meeting were there, so what else do they want?
“After that they didn’t meet until one week, despite the fact that you met with the highest authority. It was unfortunate one of them, Prof. Iyayi died.
“The way ASUU has conducted the matter shows they are extreme and when Iyayi died, they now said the strike was now indefinite,
our children have been at home for over five months.”

I shake my head.... honestly what would you have done if you were the president?

ASUU Strike gets a another crack on its wall as UNN, ESUT Announce Dec 2 Resumption Date

The four months industrial action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), weekend suffered a setback as the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), have announced December 2, Monday, as resumption date in the two institutions.
The date was given in a statement from the two schools Saturday.
According to the UNN  Registrar, Mr Anthony Okonta, in the statement, normal academic activities would resume immediately, on resumption Monday.
Similarly, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ESUT Registrar, Mr Chris Igbokwe in a statement said that academic work in the institution will start on Monday, Dec 2.
Can't help but ask if ASUU realy know what its doing?

Oshiomhole sent apologies to Widow: adressing FOMWAN

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo StateFriday apologised to the widow whose wares were confiscated at the Oba Ovonramwen Square, Benin City last week.
Speaking to a delegation of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria in Government House Benin City, Oshiomhlole said “I regret my action”. According to him, “Last week, I had an encounter with a young lady at Oba Ovonramwen Square by Mission Road. She was trading on the road and too many people have been doing this. They block the road with their wares. Part of the problem of Benin before now is that it is so difficult to drive round the City.
“That also affects the economic, social and commercial life of the City. The people cannot move from one place to the other. Where you
could have spent thirty minutes, you are spending hours. We have various officers we have assigned to keep the roads clean, to keep
the walkways clean so that people can walk.
As you may have noticed in the past, there is no street in Benin City that had a walk way. “But you find some of our women; they just
convert the road to trading post. For years we have been sermonising. I came across this
young lady who chose to put her wares right on the road thereby creating blockade and obstruction. We are all human and in my anger I said to her, how would you be doing this? I asked them to confiscate her wares”, he said.

Explaining further Oshiomhole said, “She told me ‘I am a widow’ and I said if you are a widow must you do things that would make
other women widows. By this obstruction you have caused, you could cause accident. You could actually get knocked down.
“In the process I probably said something that I should not have said. I want to say that I do appreciate that I come from a very poor background. I understand the pains of the poor. We also need to be careful so that the poor do not create more problems.
“Just to say to our women that I regret having said what I said to her. But I am troubled by what I see sometimes. We spend tax payers’ money to build roads so that people can walk and yet some of these things happen. I regretted that particular action but help us to
preach to our women to try and respect the right of way”, the Governor urged the FOMWAN officials.

The governor further charged the women, ”I would encourage you to propagate the virtues of Islam and as mothers you should preach peace and love which Islam represents. By your actions you are helping people to recognize that we are all brothers and sisters
belonging to one large family
Oshiomhole admitted that it was a difficult time for Nigeria; the level of poverty is high, adding that a lot of women are challenged as single mothers and the challenge of modern societies have thrown most women to become breadwinners.

Well thats it the apology that is lon awaited....

PDP rescues widow whom Gov. Oshiomhole told to “go and die”

After all said and done... The Peoples Democratic  Party (PDP), Edo State, has condemned the inhuman treatment allegedly meted out on a widow by the State Governor, Comrade Adams
Oshiomhole. The video which has gone viral captured the erstwhile comrade turned emperor, siezing the poor widows good for selling by the roadside. Despite pleas from the woman.
Is this real mercy from the PDP or just the usual political thing

Spanish Police have arrested three Nigerians accused of kidnapping two Nigerian children to force their mothers into prostitution.
They are charged with tying the children up, and drugging and starving them in a flat in Valmojado in the Toledo region in central Spain.
Five other women were freed by police in three other Spanish towns in the same operation.

POPULATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS IN UK TREBLES

Number of Nigerians studying for a degree in the UK has trebled in just eight years, according to available statistics.
An online statement from Nottingham Trent University says “the latest data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency in the UK (HESA) shows that 17,640 Nigerians enrolled to study at UK universities during 2011/12 compared to 5,385 for 2003/04.”
The university based in Nottingham in the East Midlands in England, “now has nearly double
the number of Nigerian students compared to two years ago. For the academic year 2013/14, 64 Nigerians enrolled at the university,
compared to 38 in 2011/12.”
The release says “among those to enrol were siblings Olufunmilayo Odeyemi, 19, Fehintola Odeyemi, 21, and Olurotimi Odeyemi, 23, who were all born and raised in Kaduna.
“Olufunmilayo is currently studying for a degree in product design, while Fehintola and Olurotimi have both graduated with degrees in
architecture.”
It quoted Olufunmilayo, known as Funmi, as saying “The best thing about studying in the UK is that you get to meet so many different
people.
“It’s a real experience and I have learned much more than I ever imagined. Not only that, but I love football and have been to watch my
favourite team, Manchester United, play in the Premier League.”
Older sister Fehintola said: “The lifestyle is very different in the UK compared to Nigeria. What you say, how you dress and the way you
interact with people is very different from home. It has been a real experience.
“I plan to do a masters degree in architecture which will lead to me being qualified with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Once I have this, I would like to come home to Nigeria and move to Lagos to work in an architectural firm.”
Selma Toohey, international recruitment officer for Sub-Saharan Africa at Nottingham
Trent University, said: “We’re seeing increases in the number of students from Nigeria coming here to study, which is really encouraging.
“In the past we have had many students applying from Lagos, but now we’re seeing more come to us from other parts of Nigeria, such as cities and towns in the north like
Kaduna.
“More people are realising that studying in the UK is a realistic option and many find it to be a real benefit to experience living in another culture while studying for their degrees.”

Experts commend CBN over plan to change naira to paper notes

Some financial experts on Wednesday commended the CBN on its plan to change naira notes from polymer to paper notes in second quarter of 2014.
They said in Lagos that the plan was a good decision, but long over-due.
NAN reports that the polymer notes were first introduced in 2007 with N20 denomination and later in 2009 with the N5, N10, and N50 denominations.
Mr Muda Yusuf , the Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), said that the decision was well intended.
He said that it was an error on the part of CBN to have produced polymer notes. Yusuf urged the CBN to be cost conscious in the production of naira notes, saying the polymer notes lacked quality as they faded easily.
He also advised the CBN to ensure that thennew naira notes would have longer life span for them to stand the test of time.
I think there is quality issue with the polymer notes because they fade so fast. If you examine some of the polymer notes, you will be struggling to read what is written on them.
“So, I think it is a better decision because the quality of the polymer is so poor and it was an error for CBN to have opted for the use of polymer notes,” he said.
Mr Harrison Owoh, the Managing Director, HJ Trust and Investments in Lagos, said: “I wonder why it took the CBN a period of six years before it detected the flaws in the
polymer notes”.
Owoh said that the move by the CBN to phase out the polymer notes might be politically inclined, adding that the CBN had been “foot dragging” on the issue for long.
NAN reports that Mr Tunde Lemo, Deputy Governor, (Operations) at CBN, on Nov. 21, said that Nigerians would be handling a new generation of naira notes by second
quarter of 2014.
He said that the bank had earlier
announced to the public that it would change naira from polymer to paper and that all the notes would not be withdrawn at the same time.
Nigerians will be having new generation notes in paper in the next few months.
“We will wait until the notes wear and tear. When they wear, and they travel back to Central Bank, of course they will be re-issued,” he said.
According to him, the life cycle of a note in Nigeria is between six months and a year and the CBN took that decision six months ago.
“I reckon that in the next three to six months you will begin to see these denominations re-appear in paper.”

Nigerian Sports Award ‘upsets’ Okocha

Former Super Eagles skipper, Austin Jay Jay Okocha has expressed regret over the Nigerian Sports Award which has come long after his retirement from active
football, saying, “I am upset by the
organisers.”
Believing that he could perhaps, have won it several times before his retirement, Okocha who presented a plaque to Victor Moses, winner of the 2013 Nigerian
Footballer of the Year Award said, “I am upset by the organisers . Why did they not come when we were playing?” Laughter followed.
Back to the business at hand, the former Bolton Wanderers captain defended the choice of Moses as winner of the Nigerian Footballer of the Year Award. “I totally agree with the voters who picked Moses for the award,” he said.
Continuing, Okocha said, “This was a young man many thought would not cope with African football. But he came in and blended seamlessly to help Nigeria win the
Africa Cup of Nations.
I know all the other nominees – Mikel Obi and Sunday Mba – deserve their mention, but there has to be one winner. Victor Moses is a worthy winner"

Nigerian Award overwhelms Keshi

"I never thought of being nominated let alone being named the Coach of the Year in Nigeria, the first time I will be receiving such an award.
I am overwhelmed and thankful to those who thought me good enough to be so honoured, God will honour them”. Those were the words of Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi while
reacting to being named the Coach of the Year at the Nigerian Sports Awards, which held at the prestigious Muson Centre in Lagos, Tuesday night amidst pomp. He was unavoidably absent at the occasion.
I am happy that there are some people out there who are taking note of our little contribution to Nigerian football and thought it wise to give awards. The award will give me more energy, zeal and
determination to do more for football in Nigeria at the highest level”, he said.

NFF ‘ll not sack Keshi

President of the Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji Aminu Maigari has allayed fears over the fate of Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, declaring that “Keshi will take the
Eagles to the 2014 World Cup.”
Speaking in Lagos Tuesday, soon after he was honoured with the 2013 Sports Administrator of the Year Award, Maigari wondered where stories about the supposedly uncertain state of Keshi’s employment were emanating from.
I don’t know who is cooking up these stories. I think, with great apologies to you guys in the media, these stories are coming from the press because Keshi and I have not sat down to discuss anything like that.”

He said, categorically, “There is no question about it. Keshi will lead the Eagles to the World Cup as there is no plan to engage any other coach. Keshi has not told me he needs an assistant or he needs help. He is taking us to the World Cup because he is a very good coach.”
In a separate interview with a radio station in Lagos, chairman of the NFF Technical Committee, Chris Green maintained that Stephen Keshi will lead the country to Brazil 2014.
“Keshi has qualified us for the World Cup and that simply means Keshi would take us to the World Cup.
We are satisfied with the jobs and results Keshi has produced. And for those insinuating for a foreign technical adviser or whatever they call it, it would not affect coach Stephen Keshi because he remains
our head coach and he will lead the team to the World Cup.”
Keshi himself started the controversy when he said that he would not be shocked if they sacked him before the World Cup.
He was given the boot when he assisted Shuaibu Amodu to qualify Nigeria for the 2002 World Cup.
He also was not in charge of Togo to the 2006 World Cup even after he upset the form books to guide the little West African country to Germany 2006.

Am sure this must have clearified some thinking...

FG orders immediate re-opening of Varsities

The Federal Government, Thursday,
ordered all Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities that are currently on strike to immediately reopen for academic and allied activities.
Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja, on the latest on the 5 months strike.
He said it was rather unfortunate that after a 13 hour meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on the 4th of November, 2013, three weeks after the meeting Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU came up with new conditions for them to call off the 5 months old strike.
He said it was obvious that the new
conditions of ASUU was not in the interest of the nation.
The conditions that were given by ASUU included, that President Jonathan should facilitate the endorsement of resolutions reached with him and must be signed by high ranking government official preferably the Attorney-General of the Federation but
not a Permanent Secretary.

This asuu think is getting worse. I feel they are just having somthing personal with the F.G. #justsaying... comments

ASUU says sack threat would fail

The Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) has said the threat by the Federal Government to sack university lecturers would not only fail but also worsen the situation and “another long path to make the strike linger more than necessary.”
With the threat, ASUU said it was evident now that the Federal government was not ready  to implement any resolutions it reached with the union.
It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to perfect the resolutions reached with union. This is why we find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost 60,000. We are not in Military era. The Military tried it and failed. This one will fail again.” ASUU said.

After F.G gave a deadline of next week (dec 4) then any lecturer that doesn't resume duty by the said date, should be relieved off duty and space should be advertised by the school...

It is sure for this union gaaan, like they own the country, what do you feel?

Keshi demands Moses to be at 100% for world cup

Coach Stephen Keshi has tasked Victor Moses to deliver his best performance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
He also said that he was proud of the achievements of John Mikel Obi and Moses, who were named Sports Person of the Year and Footballer of the Year at the Nigerian Sports Media Awards held in Lagos.
“Moses is a talented youngster and has been giving his total commitment when he comes to play for Nigeria, but I believe that he has only given us 80 per cent, we hope he will give 100 per cent at the World Cup.
He is still young but he can do better for the Super Eagles.
“For Mikel, I am happy that gradually the world is recognising his talents which he has been showing anytime he plays in the
national team. I salute him and I am proud of his achievement but must also say it’s just the beginning of greater things to come for all the players in the national team.”

Amaechi tells why he joined All Progressive Congress

GOVERNOR Chibuike Amaechi has said he joined the All Progressive Congress, APC because President Goodluck Jonathan failed to address issues raised by the G 7
governors.
Amaechi who spoke Wednesday at the Port Harcourt international airport, Omagwa assured that the APC would protect the interest of all Rivers state people, adding that the state had suffered untold neglect in the government of President Jonathan.
Rivers State must know that for me to have taken that decision, I had looked at the general interests of Rivers people. I was not elected to lead Nigeria, I was elected to lead Rivers State and I had looked at the interests of Rivers people and have seen that these interests were not protected in PDP. I have seen the fact that we are losing our oil wells in Etche, in the Kalabari areas and that the more they continue to pilfer these oil wells, the more we will continue to lose our wealth”, he said
The governor who denied any face off with President Jonathan said he did not join the APC to spite the President but to further the interest of the state.
Hehehe what do you think about this?

Red pepper, natural pain killer Medical expert

It good to care about my readers health. lols, A Consultant Neurologist, Prof. Adesola Oguniyi, on Wednesday in Lagos said red
pepper was a natural pain killer and an alternative to medication.
Oguniyi, who works with the University of Ibadan, told the News Agency of Nigeria that extracts from red pepper were essential in
pain treatment.
Studies have shown in some parts of the world that extracts from red pepper, especially the capsicum specie, can actually be used to treat pain. “It is not the pepper that will be rubbed directly on the affected area; it is the extracts from it, which would have been
processed in a laboratory.
“It is useful as a topical preparation; when you apply it on the skin, initially, it burns, but after a while, the person does not feel the pain again,” he said.
According to Oguniyi, red pepper extract is safe for most people, although, it is not supposed to be applied directly on open wounds or irritated areas.
He said various types of mild and moderate pains could be controlled with red pepper extracts as an alternative to medication or
medical procedures.
According to him, the extracts can be applied on the affected areas of pains such as back pains, cluster headaches, rheumatoid arthritis,
shingles and nerve pains due to diabetes.

Osaze eyes WCup slot on keshi's team.

Cardiff City striker, Peter Odemwingie, has stated his desire to represent Nigeria at the Fifa World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
The former West Brom striker, who has 55 caps for Nigeria was last involved with the national team about a year ago and has since been overlooked by coach Stephen Keshi.
Odemwingie, who made a deadline day move from West Brom to Cardiff City in the summer,
wants to join the likes of Gary Medel and Kim Bo-Kyung, whose countries, Chile and South Korea respectively, have both qualified to
appear in Brazil.
"I was in the Nigeria squad for the last World Cup finals in South Africa and I would love the chance to go again," Odemwengie told Welsh portal, WalesOnline.
Odemwingie believes if he has a massive season for Cardiff City, then he is in with a shout to be recalled by Nigeria to fight for a shirt in the team.
"Why not? Certainly, I believe I have a chance and when it comes I would be delighted," he said after Cardiff drew 2-2 with Manchester
United last weekend.
"I haven't been selected lately because the coach is making changes to the squad.
"It affected all the older players so the situation wasn't friendly, but he has insisted that any player who is active and eligible will have a chance to play at the World Cup so we will see.
"Playing for my country in Brazil would mean so much to me. Brazil is even more popular football-wise so it will be great if it happens."
Nigeria beat Ethiopia 4-1 on aggregate to qualify for the football fiesta for the fifth time in their history and Odemwingie feels it will
take a lot of hard work if he is going to get into the squad.
"Playing in the Premier League can only help me," Odemwingie stated. "No player will be in the squad unless they do well for their various
clubs". Odemwingie made his Nigeria debut in 2002 and has represented Nigeria at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
He was also a silver medallist at the Beijing 2008 Olympics with the Under-23 Olympic team who lost to Argentina in the gold medal match.

Hmmmm as stated before, Keshi has got a big task ahead... what do you think?

Brazil, Nigeria hold strategic talks

Brazilian Vice President Michel Temer and his Nigerian counterpart Namadi Sambo met here Tuesday for strategic bilateral talks to bolster ties.
At a press conference following the first session of their bilateral mechanism of strategic talks, the two leaders announced the creation of working groups to strengthen bilateral relations in security and defense, among other areas.
They said they will sign an agreement to share intelligence, particularly on drug-related crimes.
They also discussed the possible repatriation of 377 Nigerian prisoners convicted of a variety of crimes in Brazil, including drug
trafficking.
The two countries also hope to boost cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, agriculture and food security, consular and legal matters, mining, culture and energy.
Sambo expressed Nigeria's interest in purchasing Brazilian-made Super Tucano airplanes, a move that would reduce Brazil's 5-billion-U.S. dollar trade deficit with the African nation.
"Nigeria is Brazil's main trade partner on the African continent", Temer said, noting their two-way trade grew from 1.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2002 to 9.1 billion dollars in 2012.
"At today's meeting, Nigeria offered
opportunities to several Brazilian
infrastructure and energy companies to work there," said Temer.
Brazil is considering opening an office of Brazil's National Bank for Economic and Social Development in Nigeria to increase Brazilian investment here.
The Brazil-Nigeria mechanism for strategic talks was launched during Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff's two-day visit to the African country in February.

Kanye West Talks; considered Cutting Nicki Minaj’s “Monster” Verse & His Issues With Nike

Kanye West has participated in several high-profile interviews over the last several weeks, but the mere clips from his sit down with the Sway In The Morning Show had
the internet a blaze. The full audio of the conversation is now available online.

While at one point Kanye begins yelling at Sway after being asked a question about needing corporate connections, the convo started off
very friendly with the host even
calling the emcee ”the most important artist of this generation.”

The two speak about the Yeezus Tour, Kanye’s DONDA creative company, the classism of the fashion world, Drake being the best in the game right now, and why he’s not working with Nike anymore. Ye even revealed he
considered taking Nicki Minaj off his “Monster” single.
Comparing Nike’s reaction to the success of his Air Yeezys to the reaction of Nicki Minaj’s “Monster” verse, Kanye says:
"It was like that moment when I thought about taking Nicki’s verse off of “Monster” because I knew people would say that was the best verse on the best Hip Hop album of all time or arguably top ten albums of all time. And I would do all that work, eight months of work
on “Dark Fantasy” and people to this day would say to me ’My favorite thing was Nicki Minaj’s verse.’ So if I let my ego get the best of me instead of letting that girl get the shot to get that platform to be all she could be, I would take it off or marginalize her, try to stop her from having that shining moment… as disruptive as that Nicki Minaj “Monster” verse
was, it’s how disruptive the Yeezys were.
People hadn’t felt that feeling since the Jordans."
The “New Slaves” rapper goes on to state he and Don C are the only reason Air Jordans are still popular and calls out Nike CEO Mark Parker for holding back the “Red October”
Yeezys.
“I’mma put Mark Parker all on that summer jam screen,” adds Kanye.

Like seriously taking of niki's monster verse? Comments!

Suge Knight Says Daz Produced Snoop’s “Doggystyle” Not Dr. Dre

As you know, Dr. Dre is widely considered one of the greatest Hip Hop producers of all time. Part of his production legacy includes Snoop Dogg’s classic debut album Doggystyle, but now the label head associated with that project claims Dre was not the man creating the album’s tracks.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, former head of Death Row Records Suge Knight tells the publication it was actually Tha Dogg Pound
member Daz Dillinger that produced Doggystyle, and Dr. Dre just added his name to the songs.
Everybody thought [Dr. Dre] would be doing the records, but Daz pretty much did the whole album. And at the end of the day, once Daz finished it, everybody wanted Andre to get the credit,” said Suge. “Next thing I know Daz is having a meeting with Andre and them and
came back and said, ‘It’s okay, give me a few bucks and I’ll sign anything over that says produced by Andre instead of me’.”
Both Suge and Dre are listed as executive producers for Doggystyle, but only Dre is credited as a musical producer for the 1993 project. The album set a first week sales records for a debut at the time of its release with over 800,000 units sold opening week.
The LP celebrated its 20 year anniversary this month.

AMAECHI’S DEFECTION TO APC: WE’RE VINDICATED – RIVERS PDP

Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said yesterday that the official exit from the party by the aggrieved G7 governors, including Governor Rotimi Amaechi to the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not come as a shock to them but a vindication of the party’s earlier revelation.
The party noted with satisfaction what it called a welcome development and a big relief for its
leadership and its other genuine members who have continued to “tolerate the rebellious and in subordinate behaviour and actions of Governor Amaechi and his allies over the period in the state and at the national level”.
The party said in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, special adviser on media to the state chairman Amaechi’s defection to APC would now make the PDP to be better placed and focused to deliver to the people of the state
the much desired development and
programmes which have been “illusive following the internal ache which acted like a virus to the party by Governor Amaechi and his co-travellers”.
The statement said the Amaechi’s defection is inconsequential to the success of PDP in Rivers State and the nation at large, saying rather than create adverse effect on the party, it would further strengthen it at all levels.
To this end, the Rivers PDP said in the coming days, it would organize a thanksgiving service in celebration of the exit of the undesirable elements and to thank God for answering its prayers.
While calling on its members to join it in thanking God for being delivered from the evil that has held the party in bondage in the state and at the national level, the party urged its members to remain steadfast and committed, noting that time has come for those who have been held captive to be liberated.
It further congratulated all those who “have over the period joined hands with its leadership in fighting against dictatorship, impunity and abuse of rights of the citizenry in Rivers State,” adding that “we wish Governor Amaechi.and his ill-fated train best of luck in their future endeavour”.

G7, BARAJE TO JONATHAN: START WRITING YOUR HANDOVER NOTES

Following the announcement of their merger with the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the defunct nPDP have asked President Goodluck Jonathan to start preparing to leave the presidential villa ahead of 2015 elections.
A statement signed by its national publicity secretary Eze Chukwuemeka Eze said with the
development, the opposition APC has now become the majority party in the country.
In the circumstances, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan must now start writing his handover notes because his ambition to manoeuvre the party structures so as to get a third term in office in 2015 has suddenly collapsed.
“Now, we have reached the stage that we can only say: “PDP, your sinking ship has been abandoned to you! You brought this misfortune
upon yourself, now you must bear it alone!”
“As for us, we are happy to belong to the APC, where our value is appreciated, where we are made to feel truly wanted, and where we can now join forces with like minds in our struggle to liberate Nigeria from PDP’s misrule, which is soon to end,” it said.

Suspected hoodlums kill policeman in Bayelsa

UNEASY calm, Monday, pervades
the riverine Okoroma settlement in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State following the reported killing of a policeman by some hoodlums.
Though there were conflicting account of the tragic incident, one version had it that the killing was triggered following the alleged death of a community youth caused by accidental discharge from the policeman’s rifle.
Another account had it that some hoodlums took advantage of a fracas caused by disagreement over the burial rite of a prominent chief in the area.
The deceased policeman, it was learnt, was part of a15 man squad deployed in the area to.maintain law and order following the rising
tension among the community folks over the burial rite of the late chief described as a first
traditional ruler.
Although the identity of the deceased policeman and the youth allegedly hit by flying bullet could not be ascertained, a security.source said the slain officer identified as a corporal was shot death by some hoodlums following a fracas that erupted during the
burial ceremony of the chief.
The development, it was learnt, yesterday led to the reinforcement of security in the troubled area while the remains of the deceased officer have been deposited at the
Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
Contacted the state Police Public RelationsmOfficer, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, confirmed the killing of the policeman.
The police spokesman who dismissed claim of accidental discharge as being peddled in some quarters said the policeman was among a team drafted to strengthened security in the area
ahead of the burial of the late chief.
His words, “there was no accidental discharge. Our policemen was murdered by hoodlums from the community. we are investigating and we will fish out the perpetrators by God’s grace.

Ogbinaka made the appeal in a statement he made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said that the members should not allow their selfish interests to overshadow the interest of the union.
He alleged that some members of the chapter called an illegal congress recently but failed in their bid to carry out `illegal activities’.
"Congress anticipated their plot that was borne out of greed.
"No member of the University of Lagos Branch of the ASUU is, therefore, taken aback on their action," he said.

Alas!! Wonderkid Iheanacho to sign for Man City

Kelechi Iheanacho will sign a deal with Manchester City, according to the player’s father.
Iheanacho was named the best player at November’s Under-17s World Cup after scoring six goals, including one in the final, as the Golden Eaglets triumphed in the United Arab Emirates.
He has since been linked with moves to Porto and Chelsea but his father, James, said that the Etihad Stadium will be his boys’ next
destination. Kelechi Iheanacho
As I am talking to you, I have chosen that Kelechi is going to Manchester United,” he told Super Sport’s ‘Monday Night Football’, before appearing to correct himself by saying: “I have told you that he is going to Manchester City.”
Iheanacho senior later said that the player’s family made a joint decision on where he would go in a meeting on Monday night. “We
prayed [on Monday] and, after due
consultations with family members, we came up with Manchester City, believing he has a future there,” he explained. “That is where he
will be uplifted.”
The young striker had been declared missing by his father on Friday after he had left his home in Owerri without alerting his family but returned early on Monday morning before a decision on his future was made.
James has been integral in his son’s fledgling career, with rumours that he had valued the starlet at €1 million (£840,000), though he denied those claims, declaring: “ No, those people are my enemies. I never said that.

Am guessing the father is his official agent #justsaying.. or isn't an agent supposed to take care of the deal? Comments..

Hoodlums beat school principal to pulp in Osun

Culled from the vanguard THE Osun State Police Command yesterday prevented what could have lead to a religious crisis between Christians and Muslims
in the sleepy town of Ejigbo in OsunState when a secondary school principal in the town was
beaten to pulp by some hoodlums in the town. The hoodlums who were said to have been hired by some Muslims in the town stormed
the BaptistHigh School, Ejigbo as early as 8.00 a.m and walked straight to the office of the Principal, made some enquiries from the principal before he was beaten.
It was gathered that the school authorities had last Friday sent a female student home for allegedly using veil (hijab) while in the school, a situation which reportedly generated controversies in the town, as some Muslims were said to be angry with the development.
Our correspondent also learnt that the Muslim youths in the town mobilised and moved to the school to demand an apology from the
school principal and his refusal to grant their demand resulted to his beating.
It was learnt that dangerous weapons such as axes, cutlasses and charms were freely used by the irate youths on the Principal who in the process sustained injuries.
Also, it was learnt that some teachers in the school who attempted to rescue the principal
were seriously beaten by the mob who descended on some members of staff of the school.
The traditional ruler of the community, the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyesosin, was said to have prevailed over the situation and ordered the Principal and other affected teachers to be taken to his palace for security
reason.
Until recently, the BaptistHigh School, Ejigbo was a missionary school, but the schools reclassification programme of the state government affected its nomenclature as students from other schools were merged with
those of the school.

Asking again what has this become? Conflit everywhere.

Ikpeba Drums Support for Emenike, Mikel, Others

Former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Nosa Ikpeba, has thrown his weight behind Super Eagles players like Emmanuel Emenike, John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Vincent Enyeama as possible candidates to win the 2013 Glo-CAF award.
Ikpeba who won the award in 1997 insisted yesterday in Lagos that given what Super Eagles have achieved this year in the game and
the contributions of these players to that success, “a Nigerian player ought to be considered for the African player of the year award.”
The former Monaco of France forward said that apart from winning the Nations Cup last February and also getting the ticket to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil next year, Nigerian players have been outstanding in the continent this year.
Mikel, Emenike, Moses and Enyeama have been outstanding this season. I think those voting players for the award need to look in their direction,” he stressed.
However, Ikpeba urged Nigerians to be patient till the final shortlist for the award is released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to know those in the running for African football top prize no Nigerian player has won in over a decade and half.
Meanwhile, the sponsor of the annual African Footballer of the Year Award, Globacom and CAF have said that great attention has been paid to every detail to ensure the emergence of a credible winner through a very transparent process in the 2013 Glo-CAF Awards slated for January 9, 2014 in Lagos.
They also pledged that the presentation ceremony to be held at the Eko Hotel Convention centre, will be an unprecedented spectacle and magical in scope and scale.
Both Globacom and CAF gave the assurance at a joint press conference in Lagos yesterday.
Globacom's National Sales Coordinator, Segun Adeyemo, represented the company while CAF Director of Media Division, Mr. Junior Binyam, spoke on behalf of the confederation.
According to Globacom, “The 2013 Glo-CAF Awards, with the theme: "Icons of Africa: Past, Present, Future," is aimed at "honouring
the legacy of the past; celebrating the Icons of today; and inspiring the Icons of the future."
Coming on the heels of the release of the list of Top 25 African best players by CAF, Binyam stated that coaches and captains of African
national football teams will vote for the best player in the continent and the list will be pruned down from 25 to the Top Ten, Top Five and Top Three in subsequent weeks. He said one of the Top Three will be unveiled as the winner at the awards night. "The
countdown to the Awards night has started," he said.
Binyam commended Globacom for sponsoring the Glo-CAF Awards since 2005, adding that if more corporate organisations made huge
contributions to sports such as Glo was making, Africa would be one of the top competing continents on the field of play.
Adeyemo said Globacom's partnership with CAF, which is in its 8th year, is in "line with its vision of raising the profile of African football and the continent's players, just as the Glo network is dedicated to adding value to the lives of the people in the countries
where the company has its footprint.”
Globacom also said that its customers will enjoy the special privilege of attending the 2013 Awards to meet and interact with top African footballers and Administrators during the Gala night. To gain access to the event,
all the customers need to do is to participate in the ongoing sms promo tagged “Top up and secure a seat at the Glo CAF Awards
Ceremony" by spending N10, 000 or more between now and January 2nd, 2014 to make calls or browse the internet on the Glo network.
Our subscribers have been amazing; they have stood solidly behind the Glo brand andbthis is another golden opportunity to
appreciate and reward them for their loyalty,"
Adeyemo stated further.
Five Nigerian players made the list of top 25 contenders for the Best African Player of the Year. They include John Mikel Obi of Chelsea
Football Club London, Vincent Enyeama of Lille, France, Emmanuel Emenike of Fernabache, Turkey, Ahmed Musa of CSKA,
Moscow and Sunday Mba of Warri Wolves, Nigeria.

Hehehe happy for the chosen nigerian stars, we are behind you guys, guys try to vote oooo....

Nigeria polymer note was a 'test run' reverting to paper banknotes

Nigeria is to revert to paper banknotes, the country's central bank has announced, in a policy switch bucking a growing trend around the world for tougher polymer-based currency.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) signed a deal in 2006 with Australia's Securency International to print lower more-circulated units of the naira in polymer, while higher denominations were kept in
paper form.
But six years down the line - and after allegations that the manufacturer bribed foreign officials to secure contracts, including in Nigeria - the CBN said it was being forced to reverse the policy.
"Polymer has been on a test run since 2007. This explains why we did not go the whole hog by printing all the notes in polymer," central bank spokesperson Ugochukwu Okoroafor told AFP.
"We only used polymer for N5, N10, N20 and N50, while N100, N200, N500 and N1,000 are in paper form.
"We soon discovered that the [polymer] notes easily fade out because of our peculiar hot climate in Nigeria... making them look tattered when in use over time."
Earlier experiments indicated that the polymer-based notes, which are in use in 23 countries around the world, including Australia, could last longer than traditional cotton-paper notes.
But Nigeria's central bank said there had been a public outcry about the poorer quality of some of the new currency in circulation.
Bribery claims Securency International was reported to have supplied 1.9 billion of its Guardian brand polymer-based notes to Nigeria between 2006 and 2008.
In the wake of the bribery claims, the Reserve Bank of Australia sold its 50% stake in the firm.
Innovia Security, which bought out
Securency International earlier this year, said it did not comment on clients or their business but added that a number of countries with hot and humid climates used their product.
"We have had no issues of premature ink wear or colour fading in these markets,", a spokesperson said in an emailed
statement.
Nigeria, whose economy is predominantly cash-based, is looking to increase people's use of electronic payment methods such as credit cards, online trading and introducing cashpoint machines in a bid to try to reduce the amount individuals carry around at any
one time.
However, there are concerns that
switching back to paper notes is a sign of a lack of a coherent policy.
"My concern is that Nigeria is fond of policy somersaults," said Moruf Akamo, a former banker.
"What becomes of the initial investment in the polymer technology, considering that the notes have been in circulation for only six years after their adoption in 2007?"
Scarce resources
Akamo said the CBN should have done more research to ascertain the feasibility of polymer notes before starting the project.
"Why is Nigeria going back and forth? It's time our policy makers got their acts together and do what is right for this country," he said.
Yemi Adegbola advised the central bank against spending money to print paper notes, which can degrade quickly with daily handling and the tropical climate.
"I can't see any logic in going back to paper notes," said Adegbola, a treasury manager at a commercial bank in Lagos.
"The trend worldwide is to embrace
polymer. I wonder why Nigeria's case is different?" he added, claiming that polymer was less susceptible to forgery.
"It's not easy to fake polymer notes like paper notes," he said.
Ufoma Okeke, a 25-year-old business administration student, said the CBN should not waste scarce resources on paper banknotes.
"Nigeria is broke. The states are finding it difficult to pay their bills. We can better utilise our limited resources rather than waste such on a white elephant project,"
she cautioned.
The CBN, however, said the switchover, likely from the middle of 2014, would not be a drain on the country's finances and would be gradual.
"What we have decided is to switch over to paper notes when we next want to print naira notes," said Okoroafor.
"When the polymer notes in circulation become tattered and ready to be disposed of, we will start the printing of paper notes."
New paper notes will be printed locally by the state-run Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company rather than abroad, he added.

Honestly the exchange rate is almost a u.s $ to #160, is this whats on the CBN scale of preference?
Hmmmm my fellow naija people what do we want? comments..

Stephen; another player eyes Eagles return

Nigeria midfielder Stephen Sunday of Israeli side Bnei Sakhnin FC is hoping to get back into contention for selection for the Super Eagles.

The 25 year-old has been capped once for Nigeria, in September 2010 he was called up for Nigeria's 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Guinea, and made his debut in the.game as a starter. He has also represented Spain at junior level having dual citizenship.
In a chat with Brilafm.net, Sunday said that he believes that he can add to the Eagles if given a chance adding that he chatted to coach Stephen Keshi prior to the Fifa
Confederations Cup.
"Firstly I would love to congratulate them, the Eagles players, the coaching crew and Nigerians for the feat achieved in qualifying for the world cup next year in Brazil”.

national team.
“I hope to be back in the squad as its every players dream and I sincerely believe I have a lot to give to the national team, the Super

said.

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi does not fear being sacked

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi insists he is not worried he could be sacked before the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Under Keshi's guidance Nigeria reached next year's finals after a 4-1 aggregate win over Ethiopia in the play-offs.
But the former Super Eagles captain has twice before missed out on the tournament after a
successful qualification campaign.
In 2002 Keshi was assistant to Shuaibu Amodu when Nigeria qualified for the World Cup, but
the pair were sacked and replaced by Adegboye Onigbinde before the showpiece in South Korea and Japan.
Four years later Keshi experienced a similar fate when he was sacked by Togo ahead of the 2006 World Cup in Germany despite having
guided them to the finals for the first - and to date only - time in their history.
Keshi could therefore be forgiven for feeling nervous history could repeat itself once more, but the 51-year-old is philosophical about the
nature of football.
"This job is all about hiring and firing," Keshi told BBC Sport. "When I was sacked in 2002 it came as a terrible shock but that is life, we all moved on because you can't keep living in anger and disappointment.
"We are talking about Nigeria here, so you never know what may happen.
"But what is important right now is that we are only focusing on what lies ahead which is preparing my players and nothing else.
"You can't distract yourself with what might happen or could happen. We've achieved beyond some people's expectations but the
rebuilding exercise continues.
"I don't live in fear [of getting the sack]. To be honest, it is just a waste of energy, it is energy-sapping."
Keshi has had a stormy relationship with his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation, since leading an inexperienced side to the Africa Cup of Nations glory in South Africa at the start of 2013.
Back in February he decided against resigning from his post only hours after leading the west African country to their first Nations
Cup title since 1994.
He and his assistants are owed seven months' salary and Keshi has been paid only two months' salary since he led the Super Eagles
to that title 10 months ago. Keshi feels the situation is disrespectful,
unacceptable and has publicly criticised the NFF for failing to pay him his salary arrears. While the Nigeria sports minister Bolaji Abdullahi has chastised him for taking the matter to the media, the former Togo and Mali coach has decided to focus on the task ahead.
"We have the CHAN tournament in South Africa to prepare for as well as focus on improving the team in friendlies," Keshi said.
"You have to keep looking forward. We are building a team that Nigerians will be proud of and there is still room for improvement". Keshi is the first black African coach to have won the Nations Cup trophy in 21 years and the only African coach to have qualified two nations to the World Cup tournament.
Meanwhile, Keshi says he is stunned to hear top officials proposing to employ a foreign coach to assist him during the World Cup.
"I don't need any foreign technical assistance to guide the Super Eagles to perform well at the World Cup so if one is suggested I will
politely reject the offer because I already have capable assistants working with me," Keshi told Nigeria's Complete Sports.
"Let them (those clamouring for it include the NFF) provide us an enabling atmosphere and requirement and we shall get the job done in Brazil. We are not saying we shall win the World Cup but we shall make an impact."

Honestly i dont know why but NFF task looks like the common proverb "monkey don work baboon wan chop"

ASUU president seeks proper remuneration of workers

The President, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Nasir Fagge, on Monday in Abuja called for appropriate remuneration of Nigeria’s workforce to bolster the morale of workers.
Fagge made the call at a two-day stakeholders forum organise by National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC).
The forum was on the review of the existing job evaluation and grading system in the Nigerian public service.
Fagge said that productivity in Nigeria was low because “people who do not contribute to nation building earned the highest pay”.
He said that a lot of well-meaning Nigerians had failed to contribute immensely to building the nation due to the anomalies related to
remuneration.
He advised the authorities to ensure that the recommendations arising from the forum were properly implemented.
“Productivity is not commensurate to remuneration in the country. There are a lot of people in Nigeria who do not contribute much to nation building but they earn the highest pay.
“The major issue behind Nigeria’s under-development is that we have not been doing what is right in the remuneration system. In other nations remuneration is directly proportionate to productivity.
“The earlier we make sure that productivity is remunerated accordingly the better for us,’’
Fagge said. (NAN)

“We therefore inform all concerned that teaching and learning will begin fully on Tuesday, 26th, November, 2013. This is to enable us cover what we have lost to the
strike,” the statement read.
It was learnt that the resolution was the outcome of the meeting held last week by the management of the institution including lecturers where 80% of the lecturers in attendance agreed that they should ignore the ASUU Nationwide strike and return back to class.
In contact, with the EBSU-ASUU Chairman, Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, he dissociated the ASUU chapter of EBSU from the purported reopening by the management and maintained that the strike was still in progress until they get directive from their national leadership.

Hehehe this one that union members are getting fed up what do you think is the fate of ASUU? oya comment...
