Suge Knight Says Daz Produced Snoop’s “Doggystyle” Not Dr. Dre

As you know, Dr. Dre is widely considered one of the greatest Hip Hop producers of all time. Part of his production legacy includes Snoop Dogg’s classic debut album Doggystyle, but now the label head associated with that project claims Dre was not the man creating the album’s tracks.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, former head of Death Row Records Suge Knight tells the publication it was actually Tha Dogg Pound
member Daz Dillinger that produced Doggystyle, and Dr. Dre just added his name to the songs.
Everybody thought [Dr. Dre] would be doing the records, but Daz pretty much did the whole album. And at the end of the day, once Daz finished it, everybody wanted Andre to get the credit,” said Suge. “Next thing I know Daz is having a meeting with Andre and them and
came back and said, ‘It’s okay, give me a few bucks and I’ll sign anything over that says produced by Andre instead of me’.”
Both Suge and Dre are listed as executive producers for Doggystyle, but only Dre is credited as a musical producer for the 1993 project. The album set a first week sales records for a debut at the time of its release with over 800,000 units sold opening week.
The LP celebrated its 20 year anniversary this month.
