Ron Artest’s Brother Blasts The New York Knicks On Twitter

Today (February 22nd) Daniel Artest took to his personal Twitter account to air out his grievances with how the New York Knicks have treated his brother, Metta World Peace and reveals his evaluation of the Knicks as an organization.

The 31 year old former basketball prodigy was “disappointed” in the playing time his brother received and compared the Knicks organization to World Peace’s prior team, the Los Angeles Lakers. Artest even alleged that World Peace once warned him that the New York Knicks Public Relations department were monitoring his Twitter activity: The only members of the New York Knicks organization that Artest called out by name were James Dolan (owner of New York Knicks) and Mike Woodson (New York Knicks head coach). Artest accused Woodson of being a “yes man” and jokingly alleged that Dolan was being extorted: This comes less than a hour after World Peace tweeted that the New York Knicks were working to buyout his contract and release him: My agent just informed me this release could happen any hr now.

I just want to say “Thanks for everything” Metta World Peace signed a two year deal with the New York Knicks this past summer worth $1.6 million per season.

He has only played in 29 of the 56 games the Knicks have played this season and is averaging 13.4 minutes and 4.8 points per game.

Muslim man receives 20 lashes by Sharia court for breaking anti-gay law

The trials are taking place in the country’s northern state of Bauchi. Jibrin Danlami Hassan, the commissioner of Bauchi state’s Sharia Commission, said the men were arrested by residents of Bauchi city. The BBC reports that a court in Bauchi city said it took into account that the defendant, arrested last month, committed the offence seven years ago, and claimed he was no longer involved in same-sex activity.
Along with 20 lashes, he was also ordered to pay a fine of around £18. The trial of two other men was adjourned until 23 January. Predominantly Muslim states in Nigeria introduced Sharia law, a legal system based on Islamic theory and philosophy of justice, in 2000. It sanctions severe physical penalties for violating its code.
There has been worldwide condemnation of Nigeria after the country’s President, Goodluck Jonathan, signed into law a draconian anti-gay bill. Anyone who enters into a same-sex marriage or civil union may be jailed for up to 14 years. The law also bans people who register, operate or participate in gay clubs, societies or organisations, or who publicly show that they are in a same-sex relationship. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon , US Secretary of State John Kerry and UK Foreign Secretary William Hague have all criticised President Jonathan’s decision. Same-sex relationships were already illegal in the country prior to the new law passing.

TB Joshua accuses Joy Fm of misinformation

Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua has responded to a report on Joy News Ghana which he said misrepresented his words on same-sex marriage.
In their interactive program, Joy News had interviewed members of the public about Joshua’s statement, focusing only, however, on his opening statement about avoiding judgment and condemnation.
They also clearly edited down Joshua’s full statement in their Facebook post calling for reaction from the public, a fact several of their readers noted and queried in online reactions. Via his Facebook Page, the Nigerian cleric stated that Joy News only broadcast half of his answer, thereby painting a different picture of his statement in the eyes of the Ghanaian public. He then went further to add clarity to his statement, which has been widely reported in online media across Africa, in lieu of Nigeria’s controversial ban of same-sex unions. “God hates sin, not sinners,” Joshua wrote.
“When I say, ‘Do not judge so that you will not be judged,’ I mean we should hate sin, not the sinner because sinners can change. If you have killed a sinner by judging him, there will be no opportunity for change.”
He identified spiritual issues as being paramount as opposed to physical. “Sinners can be delivered. We should hate the act, not the people because our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the ‘spirit beings’ that cause all these acts.” Joshua originally had this to say about the controversial issue: "Judge not, so that you will not be judged (Matthew 7:1). We should talk to people to be saved and not to die. I mean, we should talk salvation, not condemnation. The Bible is my standard. If my parents were one, I would not have been given birth to. Those that are asking this question – if your parents were one, you would not have been given birth to. You that are reading me – if your parents were one, you would not be reading this today. God bless the reader and the hearer.”
Nigeria has faced international backlash since Goodluck Jonathan signing the controversial law which includes long prison sentences for offenders but it has been positively received within the African nation itself and indeed across many African countries including Ghana.

Hmmmm Unilag lecturers promise to cover lost grounds

As academic activities resumed at the University of Lagos, yesterday, the institution’s branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has promised to make sacrifices to make up for lost time.

The Chairman of the university’s chapter of ASUU, Dr. Oghenekaro Ogbinaka, gave the assurance in Lagos. Lecturers in public universities embarked on an indefinite strike under the aegis of ASUU on June 30, 2013. They called off the strike on December 17. 2013. The lecturers were agitating for Federal Government’s full implementation of an agreement it entered into with the union in 2009. Ogbinaka said that the union was satisfied with steps the government recently took to ensure that the country’s university system was on the same pedestal with those of many other countries. He said that University of Lagos lecturers would ensure that areas that suffered during the strike were covered qualitatively.

He urged students to work hard to make up for the lost time. According to him, the Federal Government had demonstrated willingness to create a conducive teaching and learning environment in public universities. He said that it was necessary for lecturers and students to play their respective roles well. ‘ The government, as part of its efforts to encourage us, has paid all our salary arrears; we are indeed happy with the development. “The same government has set up a NEEDS Assessment Committee in public universities with members of other labour unions in the system well represented. “With the development, we are optimistic that we shall be seeing a system that will be able to compete favourably with its counterparts in other climes.” “Given this development, we see a situation where, not only students, lecturers and parents will be happy,  but where the entire country will be better.” Ogbinaka, said.

He said that students of the university had started returning to campus in large numbers in readiness for resumption of academic activities. The unionist said that he was looking forward to a better and brighter future for Nigerian students, adding that the strike was a much needed sacrifice for improved university system and products.

APC hunts for vice presidential candidate

for presidential ticket In preparation for the 2015 general elections, the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has began its search is for the party’s vice presidential candidate right. Popularly, it was assumed that former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, may get the presidential slot.

In case this option fails, the incumbent Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, former Federal Capital Territory (FCT), minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai and Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido are slated for a replacement.

However, Governor Lamido has always maintained that he won’t leave People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as he is a founding father of the party. It was, however, learnt that the stakeholders who met behind the closed-door last weekend, have no mandate of the party or of any of the candidates being considered for the vice presidential slot, which was the highpoint of the parley. In a stakeholder meeting held at the weekend in Ogun State, having been convinced that the presidential flagbearer will surely come from the North, APC is now searching for a vice- presidential candidate from the South in preparation for the race. During the meeting, which was chaired by a chieftain from Ondo State, some names were tabled for scrutiny with a view to agreeing on who to present when the chips are down for nomination, which is believed, could come as early as June this year. Some of the names on the card, according a report published in a national newspaper today, are former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Edo State Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, his Rivers and Imo state counterparts, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Rochas Okorocha respectively as well as former governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Richard, Adeniyi Adebayo.

A source at the meeting, who doesn’t want to be named, said, “if former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari eventually becomes the party’s presidential candidate, Tinubu will automatically pair with him because of their experiences and exposure as former rulers. “If any of the former Federal Capital Territory (FCT), minister, Mallam el-Rufai, incumbent Speaker, Hon. Tambuwal or Governor Lamido eventually picks the party’s ticket, any one among Fashola, Oshiomhole, Amaechi, Okorocha and Adebayo can be nominated for the vice presidential slot.” He concluded

House Of Reps member slumps and dies after having sex with female banker

A member of the House of Representatives Raphael Oloye Nomiye, from Ondo State slump and died in the early hours of
yesterday.
The 50-year-old lawmaker who until his death represented Ondo, Ilaje, Ese Odo in Ondo State under the platform of the Labour Party,
was said to have died shortly after an affair with a female banker.
According to reports, the banker, who managed his accounts, was said to have rushed down from the one-storey building to inform the policemen on guard at the house
that "oga just fell down and is vomiting blood."
They said when the policemen entered into his room upstairs, they found him laying on the floor with a towel tied round his waist,
while he bled from the mouth. He was then quickly taken to a private clinic.
It was further learnt that doctors at clinic declined to attend to him, saying it was a "serious" matter, following which he was then rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police sources disclosed that the banker, who is now in police custody at the Gwarinpa Police Division, had earlier denied having
sexual affair with the lawmaker before his death.
But she was said to have changed her statement after #waterpassgarri doctors at the National Hospital conducted an examination on corpse, which confirmed that the deceased had slept with a woman shortly before his demise.
The sources said after the test, the banker admitted to interrogators that she had actually slept with the deceased and had helped him to clean up, following which he went into the bathroom, where he suddenly fell and began to vomit blood.
