Ilorin Auto Crash; 17 Perish

No fewer than 17 people have been
confirmed dead in an auto crash that
occurred along Peke village, new Jebba road in
Ilorin, Kwara state.
The state Sector Commander of the Federal
Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Mrs. Mary Wakawa
disclosed this in Ilorin, yesterday, while
speaking with journalists on the tragic
incident.
According to her, "the auto crash happened
around 3.30 A.M yesterday between three
vehicles along 16km New Jebba road, Ilorin.
She said that the accident happened when two
Toyota Hummer buses with registration
numbers TAK 113 XA and XC 185 NSK buses
respectively carrying 40 people and were said
to be coming from Lagos enroute Katsina in
preparation of the forthcoming Eid-ElI Kabir
celebrations had head on collision with DAF
lorry tanker with registration number XD 762
KNT.
She added that, the development led to the
death of 17 people who were mainly male, 10
injured, two people who sustained serious
injuries were now being attended to at the
Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, while 13
people survived the auto crash.
The sector commander also said that, the
corpses of those that died in the accident
were deposited at the University of Ilorin
Teaching Hospital, Ilorin despite the fact that
the hospital was on strike.
She stressed that, the accident was caused by
over-speeding on the part of the drivers of
the affected vehicles and tiredness.
Wakawa noted that, it was high time Nigerians
stop travelling on roads during the night,
pointing out that, this would go a long way to
preventing unforeseen situation that may
likely occur during the period that will affect
them from being attended to if accident
occurred.
She therefore said that Nigerians should be
wary of the nation's roads and that they
should be cautious of travelling during the
night so as to have a peaceful journey at the
end of the day.
